I can't blog every day AND come up with bloody titles

Woohoo I finished the scarf!!! It was a good knitting session with only one attendee abstaining from the knitting which is rare. We had cookies and popcorn and tea. Four neuroscientists sat in my lounge, which was festooned with balls of wool, drinking tea and chatting about how we wish we'd done maths PhDs. We ROCK.

So yes, Stu has a scarf. As I said to Barb, it's pretty short but it'll go round his neck and therefore fits the criteria for a scarf. He's in Paris at the moment but maybe he'll model it on his return. I started a pepto-bismol pink scarf. With the small amount of knitting that got done in between the jibbering and eating it should be done in about 6 months.

Today was an unusually pleasant day actually. Primarily because I got YET ANOTHER parcel from Canada! This time from Mel (thanks Mel) beautifully packaged with a lovely card. My mail has never been so exotic. It's almost worth leaving it down on the letter shelf in the lobby a bit longer, just so everyone else in the building knows what exciting deliveries I get. In your face you losers with your boring bills.

And I went for coffee with my friend Dr H. We had a big chat about psychic powers and mediums and such-like. She is 'a believer' (her words), I am not. She is a molecular biologist and I would never have pegged her for 'a believer' but then I don't know why I should think that really. Clearly 'believers' don't have two heads or wear signs round their necks or anything. This isn't to say I don't have a fairly open mind about this sort of thing but I need evidence. And I'm surprised that, as a scientist, she is so prepared to accept a supernatural explanation. I'd be interested in comments on this - just wondering what general opinions are/personal experiences etc.

Also 10 points for me on trying to blog every day. Two days in a row. Well done me.

Festooned with balls of wool. Barbara has started a festooned groupie group!

Well done indeed about blogging two days in a row and working on your knitting and throwing in a phd thesis along with the mix!

Wasn't it Allison who started this festooned business?

Anyhoo I'm very proud of you blogging and making short scarves, Kees, and being such a kick-ass academic.
I'm afraid I have no imagination whatsoever when it comes to physic beliefs. I dismiss it all outright.

Kees, you kill me :)

Festooned, festooned...I'm going to make a song about that word, I'm tellin ya!! Let's take joint credit Barb, I may have mentioned it, but you've worked it into many a brilliant sentence.

I don't think I'm a 'believer', but I don't dismiss it outright...never had any experiences...once again i sit on the fence. Boy, my ass gets sore sometimes from that post.

Thing is Toccata yes I'm blogging, yes I'm knitting, right now not sure I could hand-on-heart say the thesis is being sufficiently mixed in! I'm bad.

'Kick-ass academic' I like that Barb. Thing is see, I don't believe in psychic powers, but I do think there's a lot about intuition, pheromones and all that lark we don't know about which could convey a degree of information we're not consciously aware of. These people could be so empathic and tuned to emotions, but it's not in any way supernatural. But actually I think that's probably more interesting than spirits and ghosts.

I think joint credit for festooned is right and proper Alli, Barb has done wonders with it indeed. I think a lot of people sit on the fence on this topic. I guess I'm there with you but have a feeling that there's likely to be a fairly rational explanation.

Heeheee! I'm so happy you got your parcel Kees! I laughed too at the "just so everyone else in the building knows..." XD Oh my God, Im having a hard time blogging while Im working full time, as Im not used to it. Yay for you, I'm impressed!!! I keep thinking of things to post in transit, but by the time I get home, Dev is on the computer, and then Im so tired by 11pm when he is off, I just want to go to bed!

Cool, you're a knitter! I LIKE crafty women!

You know, on some level I admire the straining toward some greater framework in which exist souls trapped between worlds and dimensions, but in my curmudgeonly way I always end back up at "what-a-load-of-shit-ville," embittered cynic that I am.

I know Ben - it's great 'int it?

Well Barb I'm the one taking the photo ;)

I'm actually finding it a bit easier posting every day Mel (other than very recently but, as you will see, I had a really bloody good reason). If I leave it a few days I feel like I should post something really good, but actually just a few more days of the same old crap have passed (again except of course for THESE last few days)

Yeah I'm an embittered old cynic too really PF, but I did just the word 'curmudgeon' in a comment on your blog which I haven't used for ages - spooky no?

Never did get round to that arm wrestle did we? xx
